County approves Dairyland Power easement for fiber-optic cable

The Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution to update an easement and allow Dairyland Power Cooperative of La Crosse, Wisconsin, to run new fiber-optic cable from Decorah to Harmony, Minnesota.

Sheriff Marx under investigation for alleged violation of immigration enforcement law

State officials confirmed Monday that Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx is being investigated for allegedly violating a section of Iowa Code related to federal immigration law.

All Vets Club changes to meet public’s needs

The most significant of the club’s recent changes is the installation of a new audio-video system in the club’s main hall, including a ceiling-mounted projector, blue tooth compatible control unit, 10 in-ceiling speakers, a wall-mounted camera for video conferencing and a wireless microphone system with two microphones and one headset.

Federal funding freeze causes uncertainty for local nonprofits

Several Decorah area nonprofits began the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 28 with confusion and concern after the Office of Management and Budget — part of United States President Donald Trump’s executive office — released a memorandum freezing all federal funding effective as of 5 p.m. that afternoon. As of press time, two federal judges had issued orders which temporarily halted the freeze.
